Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up for a meal plan?
All incoming Freshman and transfer students will have the opportunity to sign up for new meal plans at Orientation. New Hanover College students can also sign up for new meal plans the first week of classes.

All returning students may sign up for a meal plan for the upcoming semester during the last week of the current semester. Returning students also have the opportunity to sign up or change their meal plan during the first week of the new semester.

What are my options for meal plans?
Dining Services provides students with three meal plan options.
The Red Panther Plan provides 19 meals per week and $50 in Declining Balance Funds per term ($20 for Spring Term).
The Blue Panther Plan provides 160 meals per semester and $100 in Declining Balance Funds per term (28 meals and $50 for Spring Term).
The White Panther Plan provides 110 meals per semester and $250 in Declining Balance Funds per term (20 meals and $75 for Spring Term).

What is 'DCB'? And, where can I use it?

"DCB" stands for Declining Balance funds. All meal plans include a specified amount of DCBs which can be used in The Underground as well as for meals in the Main Dining Room. Additional debit style dollars can be added to any valid Hanover College ID. The DCB dollars can be purchased in the Main Office located in the lower level of the J. Graham Brown Campus Center at the opposite end of the hall from the Mail Room.

What are the block meal plans?

A Block Plan is one that is set up to give individuals control over their meal plans. With these meal plans, students have a specified number of meals to use how they wish each semester while the remainder of the meal plan is available as DCB funds to be used for meals or for purchases in The Underground. The Blue Panther Plan and the White Panther Plan are the two Block Meal Plan choices students have. By choosing one of these plans, students are ensured good value because they don't lose any meals, and they have greater control over how they use those meals.

What do I do to change my meal plan?
During the first week of the semester, students can see any Dining Services manager to get their meal plan changed. At the end of a semester, meal plan cards are available to students to change their meal plans. After that, no changes can be made to a student's meal plan.

What are the service hours for the Main Dining Room and The Underground?
Check out the hours on our Dining Locations Page.

Where are menus posted for the Main Dining Room?
Menus are posted outside the entrance to the Main Dining Room.

Do I always need to present my Hanover College ID at meals?
Yes, each time you eat at one of the Dining Services' locations, you are required to present your card to the cashier. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

What happens if I lose my Hanover ID?
First, you need to notify Dining Services as soon as possible. It's important we deactivate your card so no one else can use it. Dining Services will give you one grace meal to find your card. After this grace meal has been given, you will need to go to the office of Elyse Taylor to obtain a new card. Elyse's office is located in the Brown Campus Center.

Are there student jobs available in Dining Services?
Dining Services is always interested in finding hard working students to hire. We offer competitive wages, flexible scheduling and all holidays off.

What if I have special dietary needs?
